Patient Possession Limits
Oklahoma's possession limits are among the most generous of any medical-only state. Registered OMMA cardholders may possess the following amounts:
| Product | Limit |
|---|---|
| Flower (on person) | 3 ounces |
| Flower (at home) | 8 ounces |
| Concentrates | 1 ounce |
| Edibles / topicals | 72 ounces |
| Home plants | 6 mature + 6 seedlings |
No daily or monthly purchase caps. Home harvest counts toward the 8-ounce home limit.
These limits were established by State Question 788 (63 O.S. §§ 420–426) and codified in the Unity Bill (63 O.S. §§ 427.1–427.24).
On Person vs. At Home
Oklahoma distinguishes between what you can carry on your person and what you can store at your residence:
| Product Type | On Your Person | At Home |
|---|---|---|
| Flower (dried cannabis) | 3 ounces | 8 ounces |
| Concentrates (wax, shatter, oil) | 1 ounce | 1 ounce |
| Edibles & topicals | 72 ounces | 72 ounces |
| Plants (mature) | — | 6 mature |
| Seedlings | — | 6 seedlings |
Unlike many medical states that limit how much you can buy per day or per month, Oklahoma has no daily or monthly purchase limits. You can visit a dispensary as often as you like and buy up to your possession limit each time.
What "On Your Person" Means
The 3-ounce flower limit applies whenever you are outside your residence — in your car, walking down the street, visiting a friend, or anywhere else in public. This is your portable limit. Keep cannabis in sealed, labeled dispensary packaging when transporting it.
What "At Home" Means
The 8-ounce flower limit applies to cannabis stored at your private residence. This includes any cannabis you have purchased from dispensaries as well as cannabis you have harvested from home-grown plants. Your home-grow harvest counts toward the 8-ounce home storage limit.
Concentrates and Edibles
Oklahoma's limits for concentrates and edibles are straightforward:
- Concentrates (1 oz): This covers wax, shatter, oil, distillate, live resin, rosin, and vape cartridges
- Edibles and topicals (72 oz): This generous limit covers gummies, chocolates, beverages, tinctures, capsules, creams, balms, and other infused products
The 72-ounce edible/topical limit reflects the fact that infused products are measured by total product weight, not by THC content. A single bag of gummies or a jar of topical cream can weigh several ounces.
Without a Medical Card
Without an OMMA card, any cannabis possession is illegal in Oklahoma. Penalties depend on the amount and whether you claim a medical need:
| Situation | Classification | Maximum Penalty |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 oz or less with medical claim | Fine-only misdemeanor | $400 fine, no jail |
| 1.5 oz or less without medical claim | Misdemeanor | Up to 1 year jail, $1,000 fine |
| Near schools or with intent to distribute | Felony | Varies — see penalties page |
For full penalty details, see our penalties page.
With an OMMA card, 3 ounces on your person and 8 ounces at home are completely legal. Without one, even 1.5 ounces can mean jail time. The $100 card (valid for 2 years) is the only legal path to cannabis in Oklahoma.
Patient Compliance Tips
- Carry your OMMA card at all times when transporting cannabis
- Keep cannabis in sealed dispensary packaging with labels intact when in public
- Remember that home-grow harvests count toward your 8-ounce home storage limit
- Never share your cannabis with non-patients — this constitutes distribution
- Store cannabis securely and inaccessibly to minors at home
